about dean

Exhibiting since 1993, artistic avenues have fulfilled most of Dean's escapist tendencies from as early as his pre-school days.

Predominant regional landmark icons to domestic subject matter provide inspiration and material for documenting snippets of coastal culture and heritage to enlightening road-trips. Design elements combined with urban and coastal themes as focal points are used to produce works enhanced by a strong interest in proportion and balance to draw in the observer. Occasional diversions into pop-culture can be attributed to influences such as graphics, new-illustration, architecture and photography.

Arts related industries including print, film, theming, advertising, graphic design, illustration, and more recently the rag trade provide the passport for this self-taught artist.

departure lounge

Drastically humble from the beginning, Departure Lounge ostensibly is a working studio gallery that emerged from a street wear design studio to be a showcase for talented local individuals and small partnerships.

Primarily Dean Cogle's vision for this space is about visual artists and designers who apply similar disciplines in composition, style and creativity to express their pop-surrealism tendencies.

In graphic style, elements of our surroundings are produced to document, archive and represent, to coin a phrase - 'Life imitates art.'

Located at Burleigh Heads since 2002 it is run by partners Dean Cogle and Amanda Nicholls with the addition of artist Trudy Koppen.

Located at 21 Ikkina Road Koala Park Burleigh Heads. Phone 07 5520 6418
